The Regional Center for Independent Living, Inc. (RCIL) a not-for-profit, community-based advocacy and service organization for people with all types of disabilities is currently seeking an Independent Living Accessibility Specialist
Job Summary:
With general supervision, provides referral and information, core service supports, skills training, Community Education and Awareness, peer supports, home modifications supports, and advocacy. Provides ongoing services to assist individuals with accessibility, E-mods, equipment, adult and early intervention and accommodations. Provides and coordinates the education, information and referral for individuals about accessibility, technology, e-mods, Early Intervention equipment. Responsible for assuring timely delivery of services and file maintenance. Utilizes the Independent Living Philosophy and RCIL’s mission statement.
General Expectations:
Service to Public:
- Responds in a professional and timely manner to accessibility related inquiries, Early intervention inquiries, adult equipment and accommodations inquiries, E-mod referrals, ADA site surveys and provides technical support/training for business accessibility audits.
- Provides Accessibility outreach to businesses and other agencies in the community. Maintains outreach, attends quarterly meetings and provides support to early intervention Providers in Monroe and surrounding counties.
- Ability to present and/or teach classes professionals, ability to demonstrate equipment, technology, and accessibility to diverse audiences.
- Ability to be an Accessibility Resource for internal and external agencies.
- Maintains and updates equipment entry into data base for web page and consumer tracking for reports and cataloging. Maintains the TRAID inventory and the Loan closet, Ramp supplies and inventory, tracks and solicits donations and recycling of inventory.
Documentation:
- Documents all direct or indirect contacts
- Ability to write goal plans for independent living consumers and updates as needed.
- Provide supervisor with detailed and accurate reports as requested in a timely manner, including ACCES-VR mid year, ACCES-VR annual and internal quarterly as well as monthly board reports and TRAID reports.
- Complete satisfaction surveys with consumers served by the program, document satisfaction for TRAID reports.
- Documents and bills for services rendered – OPWDD e-mods, ACCESS to Homes, and other billable resources
- Ensure goals and objectives outlined in ACCES-VR, TRAID, and 704 reports that pertain to accessibility are completed each year and are reported on
Service to Consumers:
- Refers and assists individuals to appropriate community based services and funding resources
- Provides outreach to consumers and businesses on accessibility matters and supports.
- Ability to present and/or teach classes to consumers and ability to demonstrate equipment, technology, accommodations and accessibility.
- Advocates on the behalf of institutionalized persons with securing e-mods, accommodations, technology, funding resources and equipment in order to facilitate transition into the community.
- Have the expertise to provide information and education in regards to individual’s rights under Title II of the ADA.
- Have proven knowledge and be able to provide services to diverse populations.
- Provide core IL services in relation to accessibility services, equipment and accommodations
- Coordinate Volunteer ramp and E-mod services
Program Development:
- Directly responsible for input into the development of services provided by RCIL’s Accessibility Program.
- Will seek other grant and fee for service funding opportunities in the community for accessibility services for long term sustainability and growth
- Engage in development of marketing materials related to accessibility services and complete outreach efforts to market available services.
Other Essential Duties:
- Completes articles as requested for seasonal RCIL newsletter.
- Participates in agency sponsored events and all advocacy actions
- Participation and encouraging the participation of consumers in agency initiatives and events to support the agency mission and vision.
- Will keep a clean and organized work space.
- Works collaboratively with other RCIL/CDR employees.
- Any additional tasks as determined by supervisor.
Qualifications:
Associates degree in Human Services or related fields and one year knowledge of community based services and public benefits and a strong commitment to promote and advocate for the full integration of individuals with disabilities. Has creativity and comfort in dealing with a wide range of diverse individuals and situations. Familiar with construction, environmental modifications, blue prints and home modifications, ramps, and accessible equipment.
Work environment: Office and community. Must have reliable mode of transportation.

- Salary range TBA
- Shift: (must be flexible) 9am till 5pm
- Monday – Friday
