Support Groups

Peer Linkage provides individuals with disabilities and their family members with the opportunity to meet others who have similar needs, interests, or life situations. Smaller peer groups encourage their members to choose the topics about which they want to learn and plan the activities in which they participate.

For Women Only Support Group

A small group of women with disabilities 18+ meet to discuss the concerns and issues in their lives. Participants choose the meeting topics and occasional guest speakers. Women with all types of disabilities are welcome.

Location: Based from Regional Center for Independent Living

Time: 3rd Wednesday of each month, 6–8 pm

Fee: No fee-Contribution for refreshments appreciated

Facilitation: program manager, peer leader, community guest speakers and members facilitate

“just the guys” Support Group

A small group of men with disabilities 18+ meet to discuss their concerns and issues in an informal community setting. Participants choose the meeting topics and community locations, which can vary from a sporting event, bowling, movie or video gaming venue. Men with all types of disabilities are welcome.

When: Monthly social, recreation or educational events advertised by flyer and on the RCIL calendar 4-6 weeks in advance. Contact the team leader or program manager for more information.

Fee: No fee to attend; small fee for sporting events

Facilitation: Volunteer peer leader and members facilitate

Peer Linkage Support Group

This support group empowers individuals with disabilities, as well as the people who care for and about them. Because isolation is common for both individuals with a disability and their family members, Peer Linkage is a great opportunity to meet other people who have the same needs, interests or life situations. All Monroe County residents with a disability who live with a family member and are waiver eligible may join this group. Other individuals may participate in groups and events as space allows.
